RAPROCAN

The first cruise of the 2014 RAPROCAN is over. This is a long-term monitoring of the Canary Current  performed under the leadership of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. Congratulations to the cruise leader Dr. Pedro Vélez and all the participants. Below some pictures of the sampling taken by Juan Carlos Garijo. The hard worker on deck is Laia Armengol. Pay attention to the heavy weather (sarcasm…).

HotMix transit to Crete is over

The transit from Vigo to Crete of the RV "Sarmiento de Gamboa" is over. During the last days, professors and PhD and master students from Universities of Vigo, Cádiz and Las Palmas were teaching and learning oceanography at sea. Below are the participants.

Mesopelagic fish

Mesopelagic fish biomass in the ocean is one order of magnitude higher than previously evaluated. This result was recently published by Irigoien et al. (2014) in Nature Communications. Enter the link below for full explanation.
